Josiah Staveley was born in 1864 Aldbrough, Yorkshire, England to parents Robert Staveley and Charlotte MAIR. By 1870 the family had left England, and settled in Brookfield, Clinton County, Iowa.  In 1900 Josiah and his wife Letitia are found living in Shelby and have moved to Boone County by 1910:

Based on his World War I draft registration card, Josiah's son, John Chester Staveley, was born on April 25, 1891, and apparently had a weak heart.

By 1930 Josiah's wife Letitia is widowed, and living alone.

Cecil and Alice report they have been married for three years.  There are no children in the household at the time of the census.
