The Stavelys of Galveston, Texas, arrived from Alabama. James Alonso Stavely was born in Coosa County, Alabama, on August 18, 1859, and married Martha Elizabeth BISHOP in 1885. Prior to arriving in Galveston, James and Martha were residing in Bryan County, Oklahoma.

James Alonso Stavely died July 14, 1933. Both he and his wife Martha are buried at Alta Loma Cemetery in Santa Fe, Galveston County, Texas.

James and Martha's daughter, Bessie Beatrice Stavely, married Sam Morris O'CALLAGHAN and had a son Hartford Sam O'Callaghan born October 28, 1934.

James's son, John Jefferson Stavely (aka "Jett"), was born in Arkansas on May 20, 1896. He married Lillian Audrey LOCKE and settled in Galveston. Their youngest child, Alex William Stavely, is just seven months old at the time of the 1930 census, born September 23, 1929.

The following year another son, Thomas Everett Stavely, was born on July 19, 1931. He died September 23, 1986.

John Jefferson Stavely, Sr. died on May 5, 1945 at the age of 52 years and is buried at Alta Loma Cemetery in Santa Fe, Galveston County, Texas.

James Alonso Stavely's son, Charles Merium Stavely, was born on May 20, 1889 in Alabama. In 1910 he is living at home with his parents in Bryan County, Oklahoma. He married Emma Mae (nee?).

Emma Mae died May 10, 1970. A few years later her husband, Charles Merium Stavely, died on January 9, 1975. Both are buried at Alta Loma Cemetery in Santa Fe, Galveston County, Texas, along with their son, Lewis Clifford Stavely, who died November 1, 1972.
