Walter Staveley was born on April 9th, 1885 in Besthorpe Nottingham, the son of James Staveley and Susan WATSON.  Walter was raised in Nottingham, and married Eliza HALL.

At the age of 30 Walter joined the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force in WW1 on August 17, 1915.  He declared himself to be a carpenter by trade, and gives his residential address as in Battleford, Saskatchewan.  The following year Walter's brother George joined the COE Force, and was residing in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the time.

Another Staveley found his way to Saskatchewan, but this time from Ireland, via Australia.  Henry Francis Staveley settled in Prince Albert Saskatchewan.  He apparently served with the Manitoba Militia for a time.  Henry is known to have married Mary ARCAND, a native of Canada.
