Charles William Dunbar Staveley was born in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France on December 18, 1817, the son of Lieutenant-general William Staveley of York, and Sarah MATHER. He married Susan Millicent MINET, daughter of Charles William Minet, in Dover, Kent on October 31, 1864. The family is located residing in Stoke Damerel in 1871:

Prior to the census, Charles and Susan had a son Robert Napier Staveley b. November 5, 1866 in Dover, but he died on July 12, 1867.
The ARBUTHNOT children are the daughters of Charles' sister, Harriet ARBUTHNOT (nee Staveley) who is residing in Paddington, Middlesex in 1871, with mother Sarah (nee MATHER).
Son William Cathcart Staveley is at boarding school in Harrow in 1881. He married Lilian Louisa BOWDOIN on September 30, 1899 in Kensington, London, and died March 10, 1939.
In 1881 some of Charles' children are found residing in Corsley, Wiltshire.
