Besthorpe, Nottinghamshire

Henry Staveley is the son of Joseph Staveley and Martha SUDBURY of Newark. Henry married Alice COPE February 6, 1851 at St. Mary's Church, in Newark.  The family moved to Besthorpe around 1858.

James and Sarah's daughter Alice died in 1866 at the age of 6 years.

Henry and Alice had at least two additional children not listed above.  Son Henry was born on April 4, 1858 in Besthorpe, Nottingham. Unfortunately the child died in Besthorpe December 11, 1866 at the age of 8.  They also had a daughter Elizabeth on April 11, 1860, but Elizabeth died on May 11, 1860 in Newark, Nottingham.

Henry and Alice Cope's son Fred married Mary Elizabeth MILNES on January 20, 1885 in Collingham, Nottingham.  In 1891 they are living in Balderton, near Newark.

In 1879 Henry and Alice's son James married Susan WATSON and in 1881 and is found residing next door to his parents with his wife and daughter Clara.

In 1881 Henry's brother James is Widowed.  His wife Sarah died in 1879 at the age of 45 years around the time of the birth of their daughter Elizabeth:

James and Sarah's son Henry married Harriet Ann SMITH in the December quarter of 1891, and in 1901 is found residing in Carnarvon, Wales with his wife, and daughter Lizzie.

By 1901 Henry and Alice have returned to Newark. Henry died in Newark on February 14, 1904 aged 73 years.  Alice survived her husband by ten years, and died July 2, 1914 in Newark, aged 84.

**Note that both Walter and George registered with the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force in World War I.  Walter had married Eliza HALL and relocated to Battleford, Saskatchewan in Canada by 1915.  Brother George was living in Manitoba Canada when he joined the force in 1917. 

Susan's husband James died in Besthorpe in 1895, aged 39 years.  By 1901 we find Susan and her children living in Newark near Henry and Alice.
