James Staveley was the son of John and Hannah Staveley of Skirlaugh, b. December 18, 1817. James married Martha KELL in 1846 and settled in Crosby, Lincolnshire.

* Bessy and Sarah are actually James Staveley's step daughters. However, until the release of the 1851 census, the Staveley/Kell relationship was somewhat unclear.
