Frances Staveley (nee COX) of Knaith, Lincolnshire
William Staveley married Frances COX in Lea, Lincolnshire on May 10, 1775 and settled to raise his family in Knaith. William Staveley died in 1809. Below is an adminis bond dated 1809:
Know All Men, by these presents that we Frances Staveley of Knaith in the county of Lincoln, widow and Joseph Staveley of and Miles Lester both of the same place, farmers, are held and firmly bound unto the worshipful Leonard Towns clarke master of arts official of the archdeaconry of Stow, lawfully constituted in two thousand five hundred and sixty pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain, to be paid unto the said Leonard Towns or to his certain attorney, his executors, administrators or assigns, to which payment will and truly to be made. We oblige ourselves and each of us by herself and himself for the whole our and each every of our heirs, executors, and administrators firmly by the presents, sealed with our seals dated the twenty fourth day of march in the forty ninth year of the reign of our sovereign Lord George the third, by the grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, King, defender of the faith and in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and nine.
The Condition of this obligation is such that if the above bounden Frances Staveley, the relict and administrator of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of William Staveley, late of Knaith, aforesaid deceased, do make or cause to be made a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased, which have or shall come to the hands possession or knowledge of her, the said, Frances Staveley, or into the hands and possession of any person or persons for her, and the same so made do exhibit or cause to be exhibited into the registry of the archdeaconry aforesaid at or before the last day of 1810, next ensuring. And the same goods, chattels and credits and all other the goods, chattels and credits of the said deceased at the time of his death, which at any time after shall come to the hands or possession of the said Frances Staveley or into the hands and possession of any other person or persons for her do well and truly administer according to law. And further do make or cause to be made a true and just account of her said administration at or before the last day of 1810 and all the rest and residue of the said goods, chattels and credits which shall be found remaining upon the said administrators. Accompt the same being first examined and allowed of by the judge or judges for the time being of the said court , shall deliver and pay unto such person or persons respectively as the said judge or judges by his or their decree or sentence pursuant to the true intent and meaning of a late act of parliament made in the two and twentieth and three and twentieth years of the reign of our late sovereign Lord King Charles the Second intituled an act for the better settling of intestates estates. Shall limit and appoint and if it shall hereafter appear that any last will and testament was made by the said deceased and the executor or executors therein named do exhibit the same into the said court making request to have it allowed and approved according by if the said Frances Staveley above bounden being there unto required do render and deliver the said letters of administration, Approbation of such testament being first had and made in the said court, then this obligation to be void or else to remain in full force and virtue. On the twenty fourth day of March 1809 Frances Staveley the administrator within named was duly sworn and also made oath that the goods chattels and credits of the deceased at the time of his death did not amount to one thousand five hundred pounds Before me J Smith

The following is the last will and testament of William Staveley's wife Frances (nee Cox).
This is the last will and testament of me Frances Staveley, of Knaith in the county of Lincoln, widow, made and published this 29th day of July in the year of our lord 1831, being of sound mind and understanding.
Just I will and direct that all my just debts, funeral and testamentary expenses shall be fully paid and satisfied by my executor hereinafter named as soon as conveniently may be after my decease.
I give and bequeath unto Gervas William Maw of Belton in the said county of Lincoln, farmer, the legacy or sum of ten pounds.
To my son Miles Staveley, the legacy or sum of ten pounds.
To my son Christopher Staveley, the legacy or sum of ten pounds.
To my grandson Walter Staveley of Knaith aforesaid, farmer, the legacy or sum of ten pounds.
All which said last mentioned legacies or sums of monies I will, shall be paid by my executor hereinafter named within 12 months next after my decease.
I give and bequeath unto the six daughters of the above named Gervas William Maw; Francis Sarah Maw, Knathia Mary Maw, Elizabeth Maw, Lucy Maw, Alice Gibson Maw and Sarah Maw the legacy or sum of ten pounds each or apiece so soon as they shall attain their respective age or ages of 21 years. The interest in the meantime (if any) to be paid by my executor hereinafter named to their respective use or uses, and in case any of them shall happen to depart this life before she or they shall have attained that age, then and in that case, the share or shares or her or them so dying shall be equally divided amongst the survivors at 21.
I give and bequeath unto the three children of my son Miles Staveley; Eastland Staveley, Arthur Staveley and Ellen Staveley the legacy or sum of ten pounds each or apiece at 21 years of age, or at such other time or times as the said Miles Staveley shall direct or appoint. The interest in the meantime to be paid by my executor hereinafter named unto my said son Mils Staveley and in case any of them, the said Eastland Staveley, Arthur Staveley and Ellen Staveley shall happen to die before they attain the age of 21 years, the share of his, her or them so dying to be equally divided amongst the survivors or survivor of them at 21 years of age as aforesaid or at such other time as the said Miles Staveley, their father, shall think proper to appoint.
I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Pennell of Gainsborough in the said county of Lincoln, spinster, the legacy or sum of five pounds at my decease.
And I give and bequeath to my daughter Lucy Katherine Bruce, of the city of Lincoln one annuity clear yearly rent or sum of five pounds payable half yearly, the first payment to become due and be made by my executor hereinafter named, six months next after my decease, and so continue to be made at the end of every six months for and during the term of her natural life. And it is the true intent and meaning of me and this my will, that the said annuity above, given to my said daughter Lucy Katherine Bruce, shall from time to time as the same shall become due be paid by my executor hereinafter named into the proper hands of her, my said daughter Lucy Katherine Bruce, for and during the term of her natural life.
And I do direct that her receipt above notwithstanding her coverture shall from time to time be a good sufficient and effectual discharge, or good, sufficient and effectual discharges to my said executor, or any other person or persons for the payment thereof. And I do hereby charge my said executor to and with the payment of the said annuity accordingly.
And as to all my farming stock, quick and dead implements and utensils of husbandry, crops or hay corn or other produce, either thrashed, growing, or in the straw.
Ready money securities for money debts due and owing to me from any person or persons whatsoever household goods, furniture, plate, linen, china, beds, bedding and also all other my personal estate and effects whatsoever, wheresoever, or of what nature kind or quality so ever the same may be or consist on wheresoever the same may be found.
I give and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto my son Joseph Staveley of Knaith aforesaid farmer to and for his own sole use, benefit and disposal for ever, and do hereby appoint him sole executor of this my will.
And I also appoint my said son Joseph Staveley and my grandson Walter Staveley trustees of this my will, hereby revoking and making void all former and other will or wills by me at any time or times heretofore made, and do declare this only to be my last will and testament.
In witness whereof, I the said Frances Staveley, the testatie, have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year just above written.
The Testatie died on the 18th day of September 1841
Proven on the 2nd day of February 1842
