John Staveley b. March 14, 1806 is the son of William Staveley and Jane HALL of Mottram In Longdendale, Cheshire.  John first married Mary (nee?) who died in 1846.

John's wife Athaliah died in Hyde, Cheshire in 1866 at the age of 74 years. John died the following year on May 26, 1867 at the age of 61 years, and left the following will:

This is the last will and testament of me John Staveley the Elder of Hyde in the County of Chester Brass Founder.  I direct the payment of all my past debts funeral and testamentary expenses.  I give devise and bequeath all and every my messuages lands tenements hereditaments and premises situate and being in Union Street and Thomas Street in Hyde aforesaid and also all my household furniture and other effects ready money bills bonds notes sum and sums of money owing to me whether upon mortgage or other security and also all my real and personal estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever unto my friends Thomas Swain of Hyde aforesaid Brass and Ironfounder and James Carter of Hyde aforesaid Bookkeeper their heirs executors administrators and assigns according to the nature and quality thereof respectively upon trust that they my said trustees or the survivor of them or the executors or administrators of such survivor or other the trustees or trustee for the time being of this my will do and shall either immediately or at my postponed period or periods in their or his discretion call in and convert into money my said personal estate or such part thereof as shall not consist of money and absolutely sell and dispose of my said real and leasehold estate either altogether or in parcels by public auction or private contract for such price or prices as to them or him shall seem meet with full liberty to buy in the same premises or any portion thereof at any auction and to rescind any contract for sale thereof or of any pert thereof and to resell the said premises so bought in without being answerable for any difference in price or other loss and do and shall enter into make and execute all such contracts conveyances acts and things as to their or him shall seem meet and I direct that my said trustees and the survivor of them and the executors or administrators of such survivor or other the trustees or trustee for the time being of this my will do and shall stand possessed of and be interested in the money to arise from my estate and effects upon trust to lay out and invest the same in their or his names or name in any  of the public stocks or funds of Great Britain or upon Government or real or leasehold securities in England or Wales or in or upon the shares stocks or securities of any company incorporated by the Royal Charter or by Act of Parliament with full power from time to time to alter vary and transfer at their or his discretion as well such securities as my other investments or securities of or to which I may be possessed or entitled at the time of my decease and to stand possessed of and be interested in the said trust moneys stocks funds and securities and the interest dividends and annual income thereof upon the trusts following (that is to say) as to one moiety or equal half part thereof upon trust to pay the interest dividends and annual income thereof as and when received unto my daughter Jane the wife of George Hill for her own sole and separate use independent of her said present or any future husband but without power of anticipation and so that the same shall not be subject to the debts control or engagements of any her husband the receipt of my said daughter and of her alone shall be a sufficient discharge for the same and from and after her decease in the lifetime of the said George Hill in trust to pay the said interest dividends and annual income as and when received unto the said George Hill for and during his life and from and after the decease4 of the said George Hill and Jane his wife upon trust to stand possessed of and be interested in the whole of such her moiety or equal half part of the said trust money stocks funds and securities in trust for and I give devise and bequeath the same unto and equally to be divided between and amongst all and every the child and children of my said daughter Jane Hill who shall be living at the time of her decease and the issue then living of any deceased child or children to be paid to them respectively or their respectively attaining the age of twenty one years such issue taking per? And if there shall be only one such child or issue the whole to be in trust for that one absolutely.  But if there shall be no such child or issue of my said daughter who shall attain a vested interest in such her moiety of the said trust moneys funds and securities then I direct that the same shall be held upon the same trusts as are hereinafter declared with respect to the other moiety or such of the same trusts as may their be subsisting and capable of taking effect and as to the other moiety or equal half part of the said trust  moneys stocks funds and securities upon trust to pay the interest dividends and annual income there of as and when received unto my son John Staveley for and during the term of his natural life and from and after his decease upon trust to stand possessed of and be interested in the whole of such his moiety or equal half part of the said trust moneys stocks funds and securities in trust for and I give devise and bequeath the same unto and equally to be divided between and amongst all and every the child and children of my same son John who shall be living at the time of his decease and the issue then living of my deceased child or children to be paid to them respectively on their  respectively attaining the age of twenty one years such  issue taking per? And if there shall be only one such child or issue the whole to be in trust for that one absolutely and if there shall be no child or issue of my said son John who shall attain a vested interest in such his moiety of the said trust moneys stocks funds and securities then I direct that the same shall be held upon the same trusts as are hereinbefore declared with respect to the other moiety or such of the same trusts as may then be subsisting and capable of taking effect.  I declare  that the rents and yearly produce of my said freehold and leasehold estate and of my personal estate respectively until the sale and conversion thereof respectively (after deducting the chief rent or rents cost of repairing the properties and other outgoings in connection therewith) shall be deemed annual income for the purposes of the trusts hereinbefore contained and such real estate shall be  tra?ssible as personal estate and be considered as converted in equity I empower the trustees or trustee for the time being of this my will in their or his discretion to advance and apply all or any pert of the yearly income of the share to which any infant shall be entitled absolutely  or presumptively for the time being under the trusts of this my will on or towards the maintenance and education or otherwise for the benefit of such infant until such share shall absolutely best and also to advance and apply any part not exceeding half of the capital of the share to which any infant shall  be so entitled towards his or her advancement or preferment in the world.  I give and devise to the said Thomas Swain and James Carter and the survivor of them and the heirs executors administrators and assigns of such survivor all the estates which shall at my decease be vested in me as a trustee or mortgagee upon the trust and subject to the equities affecting the same respectively I direct and declare that any receipt of my trustees or trustee for the time being shall exonerate purchasers and other paying or transferring moneys or funds to such trustees or trustee by virtue of this my will from all liability in respect of the application thereof .  And I declare that no trustee or trustees of this my will shall be liable for the acts or defaults of his or their cotrustee nor for involuntary losses and that they respectively may retain and pay themselves and allow to each other out of the trust estate all the cash charges and expences incurred in relation to the trusts hereby reposed in them I nominate and appoint the said Thomas Swain and James Carter Executors of this my Will and hereby revoking all former wills I declare this to be my last will and testament.  In witness whereof I have to each of the four sheets hereof set my hand this twenty first day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty seven—John (X the mark of) Staveley – Signed and acknowledged by the said testator John Staveley the elder as and for his last Will and testament in the presence of us present at the same time who in his presence at his request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed  our names at witnesses, the same having been first read over to the said John Staveley when he appeared perfectly to understand the same and made his mark thereto in our presence – Thos. Proved at Chester the 1st day of July 1867 by the oaths of Thomas Swain and James Carter the Executors to whom administration was granted.

The testator John Staveley was late of Hyde in the County of Chester Brass Founder and died on the 26th day of may 1867 at Hyde aforesaid.

Jane's aunt Nanny Staveley, the sister of her father John Staveley, died in 1875 in Hyde, Cheshire.  Nanny refers to her niece Jane Hill (nee Staveley) in her will:

This is the last will and testament of me Nanny Staveley, formerly of Hollingworth but now of Union Street in Hyde in the county of Chester, spinster. I bequeath the sum of four pounds to each of the children of my niece Jane the wife of George Hill namely John William Staveley Hill and George Hill the same to be paid to them on their attainment to the age of twenty one years.  I give and bequeath all my household furniture ready money money owing to me and all other the real and personal estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever that I may be entitled to at the time of my decease unto and equally between and among my nephew John Staveley of Union Street aforesaid and my said niece Jane the wife of George Hill as tenants in common.  And I declare that the legacy or chare so bequeathed to my said niece shall be for her own sole and separate use and benefit independent of her present or any future husband and so that the same shall not be liable to the debts control or interference of any such husband and her receipt alone shall be a sufficient discharge for the same.  And I appoint my said nephew John Staveley sole executor of this my will hereby revoking all former or other wills.  In witness whereof I have hereunder set my hand this seventh day of August one thousand eight hundred and seventy five -- Nanny (her X mark) Staveley --  Signed by the said Nanny Staveley the testatrix as and for her last will and testament in the presence of us present at the same time who at her request in her presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses the same having been first said over and explained to her when she appeared perfectly to understand the same and made her mark thereto in our presence -- Thos. Proved at Chester the 29th day of March 1876 by the oath of John Staveley the nephew the sole executor to whom administration was granted.

The Testatrix Nanny Staveley was formerly of Hollingworth in the County of Chester but late of Union Street in Hyde in the same county Spinster and died on the 13th day of October 1875 at Union Street aforesaid.

John Staveley died, unmarried, in 1887 at the age of 54 years, and was buried at St. Michael and All Angels, in Mottram in Longdendale in the Staveley-Hall family grave.  John William Staveley Hill married Ellen FIDLER in 1887.
