Two Staveley families appear to have arrived in Ontario from England.  The first family was that of Anthony Staveley, born in Dent in the West Riding of Yorkshire in 1832, the son of John Staveley and Ann HOWSON.  He and his younger brother John emigrated to Peterborough County, Ontario in 1857.  Anthony married Jane Bell in Ontario on July 20, 1865, and the following year he and his wife moved to Tama County, Iowa, USA in 1866.

Anthony's brother John was a stone mason by trade, and married Evangline BROGDEN in 1860 and they lived at first in Peterborough town, then in the village of Norwood.

A second family, that of Walter Staveley and Eliza HALL from Nottinghamshire, arrived in Ontario in the early 1900's.
