Durham

One of the earliest parish entries for Staveleys in Durham are from the parishes of Auckland St. Andrew in the late 1500's for the christening of a Magdelene Staivley, father William Staivley, on November 28, 1596; Witton-le-Wear for the Christening of a Brian Staveley, father William Staveley, on April 20, 1600.  However, where these Staveleys originated from is presently unknown.

A separate Staveley group from the Sedbergh line is known to have inhabited the region of Coundon in the mid to late 1800's.
