George Staveley was born on the October 15, 1887 in Newark Nottingham, the son of James Staveley and Susan WATSON.

At the age of 28, like his brother Walter, George joined the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force on January 7, 1916.  George had already served 3 years in the Derby Volunteer B. as a Bugler.  He declared himself as a Car Conductor by trade, and gave his residential address as Suite 31, Burrows Court, Winnipeg.  George also states that he is married, but gives his brother William, not his wife, as his next of kin on the attestation papers.
