Sturford Mead, Corsley, Wiltshire

Charles William Dunbar Staveley was born in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France on December 18, 1817, the son of Lieutenant-general William Staveley of York, and Sarah MATHER.  He married Susan Millicent MINET, daughter of Charles William Minet, in Dover, Kent on October 31, 1864.  The family is located residing in Stoke Damerel in 1871. 

By 1881 part of the family appears to be residing at Sturford Mead in Wiltshire as follows:

Neither Charles nor his wife are present in the household in 1881.  Charles William Dunbar Staveley died in Dublin on Monday, November 23, 1896.  In 1901 Charles' widow is found residing in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire with two of her daughters. 

Charles and Susan's son Arthur Godfrey Staveley married Margaret Evelyn WHITAKER on April 10, 1912 in Chorley, Lancashire, England.  He served in the Royal Field Artillery during the World War 1, and died March 24, 1920 at the age of 47 (see Medal Cards) of scarlet fever/pneumonia.  He was buried in Cologne Southern Cemetery, in Germany.  His wife Margaret was residing in Sturford, Walton-by-Clevedon, Somerset at the time of her husband's death.  His memorial inscription is within St. George's Garrison Church, in Bulford, Wiltshire.  On the inscription, Arthur is referred to as the "brother of Leila WROTTESLEY".

Charles' son, Cecil Minet Staveley, died in 1934 at the age of 60 years. He was buried at All Saints Church, in Tellisford, Somerset on May 30, 1934.
